THE TEAM NEWS

CARLTON

  • After pushing Port Adelaide all the way in a tight tussle in their previous contest, Carlton were able to respond by making an immediate return to winning ways as they defeated North Melbourne.
  • The Blues started strongly and raced into a 23-point advantage at the end of the first quarter but that lead was cut to just five ahead of the final quarter with Carlton needing to hang on come the closing stages of the contest.
  • There is just a solitary change to the Blues’ line-up this week with Mitch McGovern succumbing to injury so he is replaced by Harry McKay with Carlton seeing no reason to make any further alterations.

HAWTHORN

  • Hawthorn put in another poor display as they were defeated for the fourth game in succession and they must find a way to bring that run to a halt as soon as possible or leave themselves with too much to do to make the finals.
  • The Hawks got off to a good start against Sydney Swans as they took a lead into the break but they did not do enough to see the game out as their slender advantage was wiped out in the third quarter and they were unable to get back in front.
  • There are big changes for Hawthorn this week with Darren Minchington, Josh Morris, Keegan Brooksby and Mitch Lewis all dropped so Jarman Impey, Jonathon Ceglar, Luke Breust and Tim O’Brien come into the side.

THE PREDICTION

Carlton have been unpredictable so far this season but with a bit more luck, their record would read better than it currently does at 4-4. They will hope to build on their weekend success against North Melbourne and have a good chance to do so as they face Hawthorn. The Hawks have lost four in a row and although they showed signs of improvement in their clash with Sydney Swans, their lack of confidence could be vital in this game. The Blues look capable of challenging for a spot in the finals this term and despite winning just one of their last 17 encounters against the Hawks, Carlton can put that terrible run behind them to come out on top in this one.
