  • Gold Coast Suns made it 13 successive losses as they went down to Carlton Blues last week with the wooden spoon looming ever closer and they are running out of time to climb the ladder.
  • The Suns are two wins behind their nearest rivals at the bottom but with just three wins all year, it is difficult to see how they will win enough games in the final rounds of the season to avoid coming bottom.
  • Anthony Miles is back in the side for the Suns this week after he completed his suspension against the Blues and he will be joined by Lachie Weller but Will Brodie is injured and makes way with the omitted Charlie Ballard.

  • Essendon Bombers are hitting form at just the right time as they made it four wins in a row with a victory over Adelaide Crows last week with that win seeing the Bombers leapfrog the Crows on the ladder.
  • The Bombers are heavy favourites to make it five wins on the trot as they face bottom-placed Gold Coast Suns and if they can avoid the potential banana skin, they will solidify their spot in the top 8.
  • There are three changes to the team that took to the field last week with Zac Clarke back from his illness and Jayden Laverde also returns after he was rested. Ben McNiece is back too but Michael Hartley is dropped whilst Dyson Heppell is out injured and Conor McKenna is rested.

There is little left to say about Gold Coast Suns as their run without a win continues. They now face an in-form Essendon Bombers team that head to the Gold Coast on the back of four consecutive wins. The Bombers are shaping as a dark horse for the finals and will be a real threat if they can continue their superb run of form and they should do just that here as Gold Coast make it 14 without a win.
