PREDICTION
The second of two elimination stage matches is also based in Melbourne as Kevin Muscat’s Victory side play host to Adelaide United and with the two teams finishing fourth and fifth in the domestic season, this one is arguably the more competitive of this weekend’s play-off fixtures.

The two sides come into this game off the back of final day contrasting fortunes. For the hosts, they suffered a defeat to table-toppers Sydney FC while the visitors made sure of their top six berth with a win over Western Sydney Wanderers.

Melbourne Victory have home advantage and they also have the slightly better form over the last six regular season A-League matches, but Adelaide United have the momentum and it is that which is the most important at this stage of proceedings.

There may not be a lot to split these two sides but the fact that Adelaide United do come into this game off the back of a win means they could well have the edge once the final whistle is blown, one that would see them move onto the next stage.

MEMORABLE MEETING
February 2014 delivered a pulsating encounter between these two sides and it was one that if you were lucky enough to watch that evening, then you would have been treated to no fewer than seven goals.

The lion’s share was scored by Melbourne Victory, an outcome which meant that they lived up to their nickname after winning this clash with Adelaide United by four goals to three. It was certainly a topsy-turvy affair with the lead going from one team to the other, but the hosts found an extra gear in the second half to pull clear and eventually wrap up the win.
