THE LOWDOWN

NEIL ROBERTSON

  • Neil Robertson shared a round of 16 match high on quality with Shaun Murphy but he ultimately outclassed his opponent as the frames fell away to win 13-6.
  • 37-year-old Robertson is one of the favourites for the tournament alongside Judd Trump and has won two titles this year already – the Welsh Open and China Open.
  • Robertson holds a slim lead of 7-6 in ranking matches played against his quarter-final opponent John Higgins, while they draw 11-11-1 in all-time professional meetings.

JOHN HIGGINS

  • John Higgins played out a tense and closely-fought match with fellow former world champion Stuart Bingham, levelling at 11-11 before Higgins rallied to win the final two frames.
  • The 43-year-old has reached the previous two finals of the World Championship and played out a thrilling 18-16 Crucible classic last year with eventual champion Mark Williams.
  • Veteran Higgins is on the receiving end of a close 7-6 record with his quarter-final opponent Neil Robertson in ranking matches, and has lost four of their previous five encounters in all competitions.

THE PREDICTION

Neil Robertson is favourite for the World Championship after an excellent season and two dominant displays so far at the Crucible but he must make it past the runner-up in the two editions of the World Championship – John Higgins. The Wizard of Wishaw has reached the quarter-final stage for his fourth consecutive year and the four-time world champion represents Robertson’s biggest challenge yet. However, the Australian looks unflappable right now and, with a certain Ronnie O’Sullivan out of the equation, will fancy his chances of a second World Championship himself.
