THE LOWDOWN

HEAD-TO-HEAD
All-time meetings:
Peter Wright 13-7 Daryl Gurney (2 draws)
Previous meeting: Peter Wright 6-2 Daryl Gurney

PETER WRIGHT

  • Peter Wright sits one place and two points outside the top four following his 7-3 win against Raymond van Barneveld in Aberdeen last Thursday night.
  • His performance against Barney was by far his best of the season so far, shown by his average of 106.64 which is the second highest overall in the 2019 Premier League.
  • Wright has not hit a ton-plus checkout since the fifth leg of his match on the opening night against Cross when he took out a 100 outshot.

DARYL GURNEY

  • Daryl Gurney has been stunned by back-to-back heavy defeats in the Premier League. He was whitewashed 7-0 by James Wade last week, on the back of a 7-1 defeat against Rob Cross the previous week.
  • Gurney only had a total of three attempts at a double across those two matches, with no player having had fewer attempts at the outer ring than Gurney after five weeks of play.
  • Having failed to hit a 180 last week, he remains at the bottom of the tournament stats for 180 hitting with a meagre total of seven from five matches.

THE PREDICTION

Daryl Gurney’s confidence must have taken a real hit over the last fortnight with two heavy defeats leaving him contemplating a scrap against elimination. Gurney has not played well over those two matches but in fairness his opponents both performed excellently – especially Wade last week who averaged almost 110. Things don’t come much easier this week with Peter Wright lying in wait after recording his best performance of the season last week in his win against Van Barneveld. Wright hasn’t been the most consistent performer of late but he showed what he is capable of last week and he is tipped to make it back-to-back wins with a victory in this match.
