THE LOWDOWN

HEAD-TO-HEAD
All-time meetings:
Gerwyn Price 0-13 Michael van Gerwen
Previous meeting: Michael van Gerwen 7-3 Gerwyn Price

GERWYN PRICE

  • Gerwyn Price is the only unbeaten player after five weeks of the Premier League. Last week he ended of run of three consecutive draws when he defeated Mensur Suljovic 7-3 in Aberdeen.
  • The highlights of his performance against Suljovic were ton-plus checkouts in the two legs he won against the throw. He won the opening leg with a 107 finish and took out a 127 checkout at the end of a 12-dart leg in the fifth leg of the match.
  • Price has now lost only two of his last 28 matches in all competitions, with those defeats coming against Glen Durrant and Nathan Aspinall.

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN

  • Michael van Gerwen was denied victory last week in a dramatic contest by an inspired John Henderson who came back from 5-2 down to snatch a 6-6 draw against the world number one.
  • The draw against Henderson extended Van Gerwen’s winless run on TV to three matches which is an extreme rarity for the reigning Premier League champion.
  • His performance in Aberdeen was of a very good standard despite not being quite enough to win; he finished the match with an average of 103.91 and hit over 54% of his double attempts.

THE PREDICTION

An explosive match is in store between the in-form Gerwyn Price who is unbeaten in the Premier League this season and the current world champion Michael van Gerwen who is looking to bounce back from a couple of disappointing results. The head-to-head record doesn’t read well for the Welshman as Van Gerwen has a 100% winning record in their previous 13 encounters – though it has to be said that Price is in the best form of his darting career so is likely to be a tougher proposition than he previously has been. As well as Price has been doing, there is no doubt Michael van Gerwen is the better player and he will see this as a chance to prove he is the main man by bouncing back from his recent setbacks and taking the two points on offer.
