THE TEAM NEWS

WIGAN WARRIORS

Head Coach: Adrian Lam

Squad: Bullock, Clubb, Davies, Escaré, Farrell, Flower, Gildart, Greenwood, Hamlin, Hardaker, Isa, Leuluai, Marshall, Navarrete, O’Loughlin, Powell, Sarginson, Tautai, Williams

Unavailable: Jarrod Sammut, Joe Burgess, Dom Manfredi

  • New Wigan head coach Adrian Lam suffered defeat in his first match as they lost to bitter rivals St Helens in a closely-fought contest but the Warriors showed some good signs that they will improve over time under Lam.

  • The Warriors have named the same 19-man squad as last week in Lam’s first home match as Wigan head coach with Joe Bullock set to continue in the side after an impressive debut against St Helens.

  • Wigan may still shuffle their side slightly and opt to hand a spot on the bench to Morgan Escaré against Leeds after the Frenchman was surprisingly left out in the season opener and he could come onto the bench to inject some pace into the game.

LEEDS RHINOS

Head Coach: David Furner

Squad: T. Briscoe, Cuthbertson, Donaldson, Dwyer, Ferres, Handley, Hurrell, Lolohea, Merrin, Myler, Newman, Oledzki, Parcell, Peteru, Singleton, L. Sutcliffe, Walker, Ward, Watkins

Unavailable: Carl Ablett, Jamie Jones-Buchanan

  • Leeds were completely outplayed by Warrington in their season opener as new head coach David Furner got off to the worst possible start in what has been dubbed a new era for the Rhinos and will be looking to turn things around quickly.

  • The Rhinos have made a couple of changes to their 19-man squad this week with England Academy player Harry Newman and Nathaniel Peteru earning call-ups whilst Jamie Jones-Buchanan has failed to recover from a chest infection so makes way along with Cameron Smith.

  • This is a big game for Leeds and after last week’s poor showing against Warrington, the pressure is on them to perform here and another defeat could put the spotlight on some of the players.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these teams will be looking to bounce back from opening round defeats with Wigan desperate to avoid losing further ground due to their two-point deduction for a 2017 salary cap breach. Leeds may not be able to improve enough on last week's effort with some citing that this may be a transitional year for the Rhinos, although they have investing heavily in their playing squad so that might not sit well with the club’s hierarchy and fans. Wigan can do enough here to claim the win on home soil and continue their good record from last season at the DW Stadium.
