THE TEAM NEWS

HULL KR

Head Coach: Tim Sheens

Squad: Addy, Atkin, Crooks, Dagger, Drinkwater, Garbutt, Greenwood, Hall, Hauraki, Keinhorst, Lawler, Lee, Linnett, Masoe, McGuire, Mulhern, Shaw, Tomkins, Vaivai

Unavailable: Adam Quinlan, Shaun Lunt, Lee Jewitt, Nick Scruton

  • Hull KR needed a win against Widnes in their last game of the Super 8s qualifiers to avoid facing the Million Pound Game last year and the Robins will be keen to avoid getting sucked into another relegation battle this year.

  • Rovers have recruited well according to many pundits with Josh Drinkwater signed to play alongside veteran Danny McGuire in the halves whilst Jimmy Keinhorst is a good pick-up from Leeds.

  • Both Drinkwater and Keinhorst are in line to make their debuts here alongside fellow new boys Kane Linnett, Weller Hauraki and Mitch Garbutt.

HULL FC

Head Coach: Lee Radford

Squad: Dawson-Jones, Faraimo, Fash, Griffin, Hadley, Houghton, Lane, Langtree, Litten, Manu Matongo, Minichiello, Paea, Shaul, Sneyd, Taylor, Thompson, Tuimavave, Washbrook

Unavailable: Jake Connor, Albert Kelly, Josh Bowden, Chris Green, Josh Bowden, Fetuli Talanoa, Lewis Bienek, Liam Harris

  • Hull FC have it all to prove in 2019 after an awful end to 2018 saw them lose 11 consecutive matches with that sequence yet to be broken and the pressure will be on the Black and Whites to get that monkey off their back in the early rounds.

  • FC looked to add depth to their squad for 2019 with several new faces arriving to add competition to the squad and three of those could feature in this game with Jordan Thompson, Matty Dawson-Jones and Danny Langtree all seclected in the 19-man squad.
  • Whilst hoping for better luck on the injury front, Hull are already missing some big names with Albert Kelly out along with Jake Connor who is suspended. Joe Westerman, Chris Green and Josh Bowden are also unavailable with the injuries they sustained last season.

THE PREDICTION

The Hull derby is the perfect platform for both of these teams to set their season on the right track. Rovers will hope their recruitment drive is enough to avoid another relegation battle whilst Hull FC can put last year's awful run behind them. It is set to be a highly pressurised game with plenty on the line even though it is just Round 1. A win for either side can set the right tone for the season and whilst this should be a close game, Rovers can edge it with Hull FC missing too many important players.
