THE LOWDOWN

IRELAND

  • Ireland looked disjointed and out of ideas at half-time in Rome where they trailed Italy by 16-12 but they fought back to scrape a bonus point with tries from Keith Earls and Conor Murray to win 26-12.
  • Joe Schmidt was frustrated by Ireland’s lack of cohesion in Rome and could make some changes for this crucial home-tie with an improving France.
  • Schmidt handed 30-year-old Dave Kilcoyne his first Six Nations start for Ireland and he could keep his place after impressing in a hard-going victory.

FRANCE

  • France struck at all the right times in their 27-10 victory over Scotland at the Stade de France and secured a bonus point in the process with four tries.
  • Les Bleus put in a masterful performance to win just their third test in 19 and they move to fourth place in the table with six points including their losing bonus point.
  • Romain Ntamack and Antoine Dupont came in to replace Camille Lopez and Morgan Parra, with the former scoring the first try, and they should keep their places for this hardest of tests.

THE PREDICTION

Ireland were handed a get-out-of-jail-free card by Wales when they beat England on Sunday, and their final match in Cardiff could decide this year’s Six Nations champions. They were heavy-going in Rome, but should have no problem finding the motivation in Dublin to overpower France for a bonus point victory. Les Bleus looked a different outfit against Scotland, but are porous in places.
