THE LOWDOWN

ENGLAND

  • England beat a talented but naïve Italian side 57-14, in which Manu Tuilagi scored his first two international tries in five years.
  • Fans’ favourite Jonathan Joseph is likely to feature in the squad against Scotland but there is no place in the side for former captain Chris Robshaw.
  • It looked as if Maro Itoje could have made it back for the Calcutta Cup at periods over the tournament but he has been ruled out for sure now, with uncapped Harlequins youngster Marcus Smith called into the squad.

SCOTLAND

  • Scotland rallied in the second half after young Darcy Graham scored a try on his first start but they ultimately lost 18-11 to a superior Wales side.
  • Scotland’s talisman Stuart Hogg has been ruled out of the final match of the tournament alongside Blair Kinghorn and Tommy Seymour who were injured against Wales last time out.
  • Adam Hastings should start after replacing Kinghorn and impressing, while Ruaridh Jackson and uncapped Kyle Steyn have been called up by Gregor Townsend.

THE PREDICTION

Despite performing well in most of their matches, Scotland look set to finish the Six Nations with just the one victory as they face England here. Their squad is depleted, with injuries in several key areas, but they would still be the underdogs with a fully-fit side. Due to the staggered fixtures on Saturday, England play this Calcutta Cup clash last and the result will depend largely on what there is to play for. If Ireland beat Wales, any win will do, and a bonus point could come. However, if Wales win the Grand Slam before England even take to the field, pride should still get them over the line.
