THE TEAM NEWS

WORCESTERSHIRE

Coach: Alex Gidman

Captain: Brett D’Oliveira

  • Worcestershire secured a home quarter-final in the Royal London One-Day Cup thanks to an impressive four-wicket victory over Derbyshire in their last group game which helped them to second place in the North group.

  • Despite Derbyshire managing to set the Rapids 352 to win, Riki Wessels smashed a superb 130 off just 62 balls before Callum Ferguson also chipped in with a century of his own as Worcestershire sealed the win with ten balls to spare.

  • The Rapids have named the same side for the last two matches following Ben Cox’s recovery from illness and they are expected to be unchanged team once again as they look to progress to the semi-finals.

SOMERSET

Coach: Jason Kerr

Captain: Tom Abell

  • Somerset claimed a five-wicket victory over Surrey to seal third place in the South group and qualify for the knockout stage where they will travel to Worcestershire for their play-off contest in a bid to make the semi-finals.

  • The Overton twins combined for seven wickets to restrict Surrey to 289/9 before James Hildreth hit 93 from 89 balls to help his side to the win that sealed progression out of the group.

  • Like their opponents in this contest, Somerset look set to name an unchanged line-up after they were able to field the same 11 for the last two matches and following their solid win last time out, there should be little need to tweak things at this stage.

THE PREDICTION

Worcestershire have won three games in a row with the final game in that run sealing second place in the North group with a superb win over Derbyshire that was littered with big displays. They have now earned the right to host Somerset as they look to progress to the semi-finals. They will be difficult to beat as they head into this full of confidence but Somerset will also fancy their chances. They ended a three-game losing streak when defeating Surrey to ensure they came third in the South group but Worcestershire have more match-winners in their ranks and can progress.
