THE TEAM NEWS

WARWICKSHIRE

Coach: Jim Troughton

Captain: Jeetan Patel

  • Warwickshire’s miserable campaign in the Royal London One-Day Cup continued as any slim chance they had of progressing out of the group stage came to an end with a five-wicket defeat at Derbyshire.

  • After struggling to 113/5, Alex Thomson and Alex Mellor combined for 103 runs to set Derbyshire 289 to win but the bowling until failed to contain Wayne Madsen whose unbeaten century proved the difference between the two teams.

  • Now that they have been eliminated from the competition, Warwickshire may opt to rotate their squad with Jim Troughton’s men but youngsters such as Liam Banks and George Panayi should get more valuable playing time.

LANCASHIRE

Coach: Glen Chapple

Captain: Dane Vilas

  • Lancashire’s brilliant run of form continued as they made it five wins in a row after a 30-run victory over Derbyshire left them in a great position to progress to the knockout stages of the competition.

  • In the absence of Glenn Maxwell who has returned to Australia to prepare for the World Cup, Jake Lehmann made an impressive debut with an eye-catching, unbeaten 77 to complement a Keaton Jennings knock of 84.

  • After another comprehensive victory, Lancashire are expected to field a similar team in their final group game as they look for a sixth-straight win which should ensure that the Red Rose qualify for the next stage although Liam Hurt is out injured due to a dislocated knee so Richard Gleeson comes into the squad for him.

THE PREDICTION

Lancashire are the form team in the competition after five consecutive wins and whilst qualification remains in their own hands, they will want to do everything possible to ensure their recent performances are not in vain. They travel to face a Warwickshire side that have already been eliminated from the competition and are playing simply for pride but against a highly-motivated team, they could be on the end of another defeat with Lancashire picking up the important win.
