THE TEAM NEWS

MIDDLESEX

Coach: Stuart Law

Captain: Stephen Eskinazi

  • Middlesex defeated Kent in their final group match to leapfrog Somerset and Gloucestershire into second place and claim a home tie as they host Lancashire in their play-off game.

  • Max Holden whacked a huge 166 for a career best score which helped his side to 380/5 and whilst Kent put up a decent chase, they held on to claim a 33-run victory with James Harris taking four wickets.

  • Dawid Malan is once again away on international duty with England so Stephen Eskinazi will captain the side as they look for a fourth consecutive win in what is likely to be an unchanged side following such a dominant win with Middlesex hoping the competition’s leading wicket-taker Nathan Sowter can add to his tally of 24 wickets so far.

LANCASHIRE

Coach: Glen Chapple

Captain: Dane Vilas

  • Lancashire were fortunate to qualify for the knockout stage of the competition as they lost their final game of the group stage but with Durham’s game with Yorkshire rained off, the Red Rose were able to sneak third place in the North group.

  • With their own game affected by the weather, Lancashire were beaten by five wickets under the Duckworth Lewis method as Warwickshire chased down their revised total of 255 with just three balls remaining.

  • That result ended Lancashire’s five-match winning run in the Royal London One-Day Cup but will look to get back to winning ways in this knockout game and are boosted by the return of Liam Livingstone who is available for the first time this season after a stint in the IPL with the batsman expected to come straight back into the side for the Lightning.

THE PREDICTION

Middlesex have become a force to be reckoned with in the white-ball format this season, especially with the bat. They have scored three of their four highest ever list-A innings this season with the 380 scored in their last game against Kent their all-time best. They will look to continue that form as they host Lancashire who scraped into this play-off contest thanks to a little assistance from the weather. The competition's top two wicket-takers are on show here with Saqib Mahmood needing to hit top form if the Lightning are to have any chance but it’s the home side who can come out on top to make it four wins in a row.
