THE LOWDOWN

RONNIE O'SULLIVAN

  • O'Sullivan dismissed Ryan Day 6-3 in Thursday's quarter final as he continues his quest for an eighth Masters title and second triple crown of the season, after claiming the UK Championship trophy in December.
  • The Rocket has yet to really be pushed at Alexandra Palace this past week and he has been in relaxed mood off the baize, which usually spells danger for anyone that comes up against him.

DING JUNHUI

  • Ding pipped Luca Brecel 6-5 in his quarter-final in a match that will best be remembered for the Chinese star forfeiting the ninth frame on a technicality, but he bounced back well to take the final two frames.
  • Since lifting the Masters trophy in the 2010-11 season, the world number eight has vastly underperformed here having lost in the first round in six of his last seven attempts, so reaching the semi-final is a vast improvement on that unwanted record.

THE PREDICTION

O'Sullivan has generally dominated this particular match-up in the past, boasting a 12-4 (3 draws) winning record over Ding, and it has at times looked like the Chinese star has paid too much respect to O'Sullivan and appears a beaten man before a ball has been potted. The Englishman has won all of their previous meetings at this tournament and, backed by a raucous home crowd, he simply has to be favoured to reach yet another Masters final.
