Simon Whitlock 3-3 Gerwyn Price
Simon Whitlock had to settle for a point against Peter Wright last week in Belfast. He led the match 6-3 before Wright rallied to win three consecutive legs to earn a share of the spoils.
That result extended his run without a Premier League win to five matches but he still remains only a point outside the play-off places.
Last weekend at the German Darts Grand Prix, Whitlock suffered an early exit with a 6-4 defeat against Keegan Brown in the last 32.
Gerwyn Price will be eliminated from the Premier League after this match, and even a win here wouldn’t be enough to avoid him finishing at the bottom of the table.
Price has won a total of just six legs during his last three Premier League fixtures. He lost 7-2 to Michael Smith in Belfast and has been defeated in each of his last five Premier League matches.
He also lost in his first match at the German Darts Grand Prix last weekend to Luke Humphries and is currently on a run of seven consecutive defeats in all competitions.
Gerwyn Price may actually feel some kind of pressure is off his shoulders with elimination confirmed but his confidence has taken a hit and his run of seven consecutive defeats in all competitions has to be a big concern.
Simon Whitlock has plenty of incentive for the points as he is still very much in contention for a play-off place. The Wizard might not have tasted victory during his last five Premier League matches but he has come close and if he performs to the same level in this match it should be enough to ensure he takes the two points.
