THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

CAREER HEAD-TO-HEAD
Simon Whitlock 3-3 Gerwyn Price

SIMON WHITLOCK

  • Simon Whitlock suffered his first defeat of the Premier League season last week when he went down to a 7-3 defeat against Michael Smith. Whitlock had broken the Smith throw in the opening leg but then went on to lose the next four legs without having a dart at a double. He managed to get back within one leg of Smith at 4-3 down but then missed chances where to prove pivotal as Smith won three consecutive legs to seal the victory.
  • Despite that defeat he still sits in third place in the table, though he does have matches against Van Gerwen, Anderson and Wright to come during his next four fixtures.
  • His performance against Smith was without doubt his poorest so far in the 2018 Premier League; his match average was a lowly 85.6% and his checkout percentage was 21.4%.

GERWYN PRICE

  • Price was well beaten by Mensur Suljovic last week in Berlin and is one of two players who are still looking for their first win of the Premier League season. Price has two draws and two defeats from his opening four matches.
  • His match average of 90.87 against Suljovic was his lowest of the Premier League season so far. Price has the second lowest tournament average and he is the only player to have a first nine dart tournament average of under 100.
  • Poor starts to matches have been a big problem for Price during the Premier League. He has trailed after six legs in all four of his matches, and the overall aggregate of legs won and lost across the first six legs in those matches has seen Price win five legs compared to his opponents who have won 19 legs.

THE PREDICTION

Whitlock and Price come into this week on the back of heavy defeats in Berlin last Thursday where they both produced their poorest performances of their 2018 Premier League campaigns. Price will certainly be feeling more pressure ahead of the game as he has yet to win a match in the tournament. Whitlock has six points on the board though he will be well aware of the tough fixtures that are looming in the next few weeks and as a result this match takes on more importance.

This is the first time they have met in a big TV tournament, but away from the big stage Whitlock has won each of their last two meetings and he will be looking to make it three wins in a row against Price with a victory in this match.
