Peter Wright 12-50 Michael van Gerwen (2 draws)
Peter Wright picked up a total of two points from his two matches in Sheffield last Thursday. He responded to a 7-2 defeat by Gary Anderson with a 7-3 win over Raymond van Barneveld in the last match of the evening.
The victory against Barney was his first win in the Premier League since he defeated Michael van Gerwen 7-5 on night two.
Wright is three points adrift of a play-off place and with the exception of Van Barneveld, he has played one game more than the rest of the players left in the tournament.
MICHAEL VAN GERWEN
Michael van Gerwen trounced Simon Whitlock 7-1 last week and now has a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
Van Gerwen has won each of his last eight Premier League matches with his sole defeat of the 2018 Premier League season coming on night two against Peter Wright.
He was in scintillating form again during his shellacking of Whitlock; after six legs of the match his average was in excess of 110, and although that did drop to 102 by the end of the encounter he has still averaged over 100 in all ten Premier League matches this season.
The undoubted high point of Peter Wright’s underwhelming 2018 Premier League so far was when he defeated Michael van Gerwen 7-5, and as mentioned above that is the only blemish on Van Gerwen’s record in this season's competition. Van Gerwen hates to be beaten and he will no doubt have been targeting this match to take his revenge on Snakebite.
The Dutchman will want to put on a top performance in front of an expectant Dutch crowd and when Van Gerwen is fired up he usually delivers. Expect a gutsy showing from Wright but for Van Gerwen to prevail.
