THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

CAREER HEAD-TO-HEAD
Mensur Suljovic 4-3 Gary Anderson

MENSUR SULJOVIC

  • Mensur Suljovic sits in eighth position in the Premier League table and is only outside the elimination zone on leg difference.
  • He has lost each of his last two Premier League matches and has won two and lost five of his seven Premier League matches this season. His only Premier League victories have been against the players currently below him in the table – Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price.
  • Last Thursday he was defeated 7-3 by Daryl Gurney; with the match level at 3-3 the Northern Irishman won four legs in a row without Suljovic having a dart at a double in those four legs. Overall no player has had fewer attempts at doubles than Suljovic has had during the 2018 Premier League campaign.

GARY ANDERSON

  • Gary Anderson defeated Simon Whitlock 7-4 last Thursday in Glasgow to register his first Premier League win since night two. The win moved him into fifth place in the league table and he’s only a point outside the play-off places.
  • His scoring against Whitlock was as good as it has been during the 2018 Premier League campaign – highlighted by the fact his first nine dart average of 116.52 was his highest so far, and his total of six 180’s in the match was another seasonal high.
  • Anderson has shown a big improvement on his doubles over the last four weeks – his combined checkout percentage for his last four Premier League matches is a very impressive 57%.

THE PREDICTION

This could well be classed as a must win game for Mensur Suljovic in his battle to avoid elimination. He faces the unenviable task of facing Michael van Gerwen in Liverpool next week, and with ninth-placed Peter Wright making a return to form last weekend he is definitely under pressure to pick up points to avoid slipping into the elimination zone.

Gary Anderson secured an important win last week against Simon Whitlock to move within touching distance of the top four. Although the win against Whitlock was only his second in the 2018 Premier League season he had been playing well enough to suggest he would turn some of his draws into wins.

Suljovic has tasted success against Anderson previously on the big TV stage, most notably with a win in the Champions League of Darts final last September having also defeated the Scotsman in the group stage of the same tournament. Anderson admits that he finds Suljovic to be a very awkward player to play against as his rhythm doesn’t suit his own rapid approach to the oche but he proved at the Grand Slam of Darts last November that he can adapt and come out on top.

Anderson does enter this match in better form and under less pressure than Suljovic and he looks capable of making it consecutive wins in the Premier League for the first time this season.
