Daryl Gurney 6-4 Mensur Suljovic
Daryl Gurney is still seeking his first win in the 2018 Premier League having drawn four out of his opening six Premier League matches. Last week he came from behind to draw 6-6 with Simon Whitlock after the Wizard missed four match darts.
His checkout percentage of 33.3% against Whitlock was the joint best he has managed in a Premier League match. Overall his tournament checkout percentage is 29.4% - a very poor statistic considering no player has had more attempts at doubles than Gurney has after six matches played.
Gurney’s scoring is still proving to be his strength – his first nine dart average last week was a very impressive 115.56 and he sits at the top of the 180 hitting charts in the 2018 Premier League with a total of 23 hit so far.
Mensur Suljovic went down to a heavy 7-2 defeat against world champion Rob Cross last Thursday evening. Suljovic had his throw broken in the opening leg and never recovered from that poor start to the match.
Suljovic has now won two and lost four of his six matches in the 2018 Premier League; he sits just outside the drop zone on leg difference and has very tough matches against Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen coming up in the next two weeks.
Despite his position in the table, he still has the second highest tournament average and the highest tournament checkout percentage of all ten players in the league.
This is a crucial fixture between two players who are very much in a scrap to avoid elimination, they are both outside the elimination places on leg difference only, and a win would be a massive step in helping to secure survival after judgement night on night nine.
There isn’t a lot between them in the league table and the PDC rankings; recent matches between the pair have also been very hard fought close encounters. Expect another close match and a draw could be the final outcome.
