THE TEAM NEWS

KERALA KINGS

Coach: Daniel Vettori

Captain: Eoin Morgan

  • The Kerala Kings kicked off the defence of their title in emphatic fashion in the opening match against Pakhtoon but they have failed to hit the heights since then as they lost to Sindhis and then their match with Rajputs was abandoned so they need to get back to winning ways here.

  • Their batsmen have not exactly been firing barring their opening match and Chris Gayle especially has been disappointing so they will look to the self-proclaimed universe boss to get them off to a fast start here.

  • Lamichhane has been one of the best bowlers in the tournaments so far and they will look to the Nepalese prodigy to produce once again, but none of that will matter if their top order batsmen cannot click into gear.

PUNJABI LEGENDS

Coach: Mushtaq Ahmed

Captain: Shoaib Malik

  • Despite winning their first match in the tournament, the Punjabi Legends have lost their last two matches against the Northern Warriors and Bengal Tigers, and they are in must-win territory now to keep their hopes alive.

  • Batting has been their major weakness so far with the highest score by any of their batsmen across the three matches being Umar Akmal’s 31 in the opening game and that has to be remedied if they are to progress.

  • After the mauling by the Northern Warriors when they conceded 183/2 from the ten overs, they have yet to show signs of recovery so the psychological impact of that shocking loss still seems to be affecting them and their confidence.

THE PREDICTION

The Kerala Kings will be keen to get back to winning ways here and one feels like it is a matter of time before their batsmen score big. Against a bowling unit lacking in confidence following the mauling by the Northern Warriors, Gayle, Morgan, Stirling and company will all relish the opportunity to score big here. Both teams are scrapping for a result and need the win, but the Kings have to be favoured in this one.
