THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

WIGAN WARRIORS

Head Coach: Shaun Wane

Squad: Bateman, Burgess, Clubb, Davies, Farrell, Flower, Ganson, Gildart, Hamlin, Isa, Leuluai, Marshall, Navarrete, Powell, Sarginson, Sutton, J. Tomkins, S. Tomkins, Williams

Unavailable: Morgan Escaré. Sean O’Loughlin, Taulima Tautai

  • Wigan went down to local rivals St Helens in their Good Friday derby. The Warriors started slowly and despite getting themselves ahead in the second half, they fell to a 21-18 loss.
  • Sam Tomkins is again named in the squad despite missing Friday’s game with illness. Sean O’Loughlin and Taulima Tautai don’t back up with Josh Woods also dropping out. Dan Sarginson returns from injury with Josh Ganson and Gabe Hamlin also called up.
  • Wigan have won all three of their home games at the DW Stadium this season, scoring 110 points in the process. With Friday’s loss fresh in their mind, a return to home soil will provide Wigan with a chance to bounce back to winning ways.

HULL KR

Head Coach: Tim Sheens

Squad: Atkin, Blair, Carney, Clarkson, Dagger, Donaldson, Greenwood, Jewitt, Johnson, Kavanagh, Lee, Marsh, Masoe, Minns, Oakes, Quinlan, Salter, Scruton, Shaw

Unavailable: Danny Addy, Danny Tickle, George Lawler, Andrew Heffernan, Jordan Walne, Rob Mulhern, Junior Vaivai, Shaun Lunt, Danny McGuire

  • Despite playing against 12-men for 71 minutes, Hull KR failed to make their numerical advantage count as they were defeated by cross-city rivals Hull FC 22-30.
  • Danny McGuire and Shaun Lunt both failed to prove their fitness for the game with FC and will again miss out. They are replaced in the 19-man squad by youngsters Will Dagger and Will Oakes.
  • The Robins have won just two of their eight matches following their return to Super League and have conceded 172 points in the process, an average of 21.5 points per game which is the third highest number in the league.

THE PREDICTION

Wigan fell to just their second defeat of the season against local rivals St Helens on Good Friday but return to home soil where they are unbeaten this season as they host Hull KR. Rovers are coming off the back of their own disappointment having lost to 12-men Hull FC in their derby on Friday. To make matters worse for Rovers, captain Shaun Lunt and Danny McGuire will again be missing. Wigan are the second highest scorers in the league and also have also conceded the second fewest points and will have too much for Hull KR.
