THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

WARRINGTON WOLVES

Head Coach: Steve Price

Squad: Atkins, K. Brown, Charnley, Clark, Cooper, Goodwin, Hill, Hughes, G. King, T. King, Lineham, Livett, Patton, Philbin, Pomeroy, Ratchford, Roberts, Smith, Thompson

Unavailable: Ben Currie, Mitch Brown, Sitaleki Akauola, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Ben Westwood

  • Warrington bounced back from their Challenge Cup heartache in the best possible fashion as they annihilated Hull FC last week. The Wolves ran in 14 tries with Bryson Goodwin bagging five as they ran out 80-10 winners.
  • Ben Westwood drops out of the 19-man squad that was named last week with Morgan Smith taking his place. Ben Murdoch-Masila is also missing after he received a late call-up last week.
  • The Wolves have now scored the second highest number of points in Super League this season with 685, an average of 26.3 points per game.

  • With a trip to Wigan on the cards next week, Warrington will want to seal their semi-final spot as soon as possible and can do just that with a win here.

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS

Head Coach: Simon Woolford

Squad: Brough, Clough, Cudjoe, Ferguson, Gaskell, Hinchcliffe, Lawrence, Leeming, Mamo, Matagi, McGillvary, McIntosh, Mellor, Murphy, O’Brien, Rankin, Roche, Ta’ai, Turner

Unavailable: Sebastine Ikahihifo, Matty English, Aaron Murphy, Dale Ferguson, Darnell McIntosh, Colton Roche

  • Huddersfield succumbed to a superb second half display against Wakefield last week in which they allowed Trinity to score 36 unanswered points. The Giants were ahead at the break but couldn’t handle their classy opponents as they went down 16-42.
  • Simon Woolford has been forced into several changes this week with Aaron Murphy, Dale Ferguson, Darnell McIntosh and Colton Roche all out. Innes Senior, Oliver Roberts, Jake Wardle and Daniel Smith come into the 19.

  • That defeat brought to an end the Giants’ six-match winning streak whilst it was just their second defeat in 13 Super League matches.

  • Huddersfield’s loss couldn’t have come at a worse time with them now sitting six points behind their opponents in this game with just four matches remaining.

THE PREDICTION

The Super League semi-finalists could be confirmed at the conclusion of this game if fourth-placed Warrington can defeat fifth-placed Huddersfield. With just eight points to play for, the Wolves sit six points ahead of the Giants and can seal their semi-final berth with victory here. Warrington could have found themselves under much more pressure than they will feel heading into this game had last week gone wrong for them but as it turned out, it was the perfect weekend. They hammered Hull FC whilst Huddersfield were defeated to give themselves further breathing space in the top 4. The Giants have also lost several players this week to injury including top try scorer Darnell McIntosh with the Wolves able to take full advantage and seal their semi-final spot.
