THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

WARRINGTON WOLVES

Head Coach: Steve Price

Squad: Akauola, Atkins, K. Brown, Charnley, Clark, Cooper, Goodwin, Hill, Hughes, G. King, Lineham, Livett, Murdoch-Masila, Patton, Philbin, Ratchford, Roberts, Smith, Westwood

Unavailable: Matty Russell, Toby King, Dom Crosby, Mitch Brown, Ben Currie

  • Warrington carried on their impressive run of form into the Challenge Cup as they were comfortable winners over League 1 side Bradford last week. Wire were too strong for their opponents as they racked up 54 points and conceded just six in the process.
  • The Wolves rotated their squad for the Bradford game but several players, such as Harvey Livett and Declan Patton, have retained their place in the 19-man squad. Ben Murdoch-Masila also returns but Ben Currie suffered a reoccurrence of a knee injury and misses out.
  • Warrington have now won their last seven games in all competitions and will be looking to extend their run with a home game against a side that sit just one point above the foot of the table.

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS

Head Coach: Chris Thorman

Squad: Clough, Dickinson, Gaskell, Hinchcliffe, Ikahihifo, Lawrence, Leeming, Mamo, McIntosh, Mellor, Murphy, O’Brien, Rankin, Roberts, Simpson, Smith, Ta’ai, Turner, Wood

Unavailable: Leroy Cudjoe, Jermaine McGilvary, Dale Ferguson, Danny Brough, Colton Roche, Shannon Wakeman, Adam Walne

  • Huddersfield suffered a hammering at the hands of league leaders St Helens last week. The 66-4 loss meant the Giants were on the end of the biggest defeat handed out in Super League so far this season.
  • In a much needed boost for interim head coach Chris Thorman, Jake Mamo makes his return from injury. Michael Lawrence, Adam O’Brien and Jared Simpson are also named with Shannon Wakeman, Adam Walne, Colton Roche and Innes Senior making way.
  • The hammering Huddersfield were on the end of last week only increased their average points conceded per game with the figure now standing at 31.6 points. The Giants have allowed 379 points against them in 12 games.

THE PREDICTION

This looks like a huge mismatch on paper with Huddersfield travelling to Warrington on the back of the biggest defeat of the Super League season. The Giants couldn’t handle St Helens whilst Warrington were too strong for their League 1 opponents in the Challenge Cup last week as they easily saw off Bradford. Warrington have scored 94 points in their last two games and will fancy themselves to add another big score to their winning run as Huddersfield’s porous defence rolls into town.
