THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

LEEDS RHINOS

Head Coach: Brian McDermott

Squad: Ablett, Briscoe, Delaney, Dwyer, Golding, Hall, Handley, Jones-Buchanan, Moon, Mullally, Myler, Oledzki, Ormondroyd, Parcell, Singleton, Smith, Walker, Walters, Watkins

Unavailable: Brett Ferres, Nathaniel Peteru, Adam Cuthbertson, Stevie Ward, Liam Sutcliffe, Jimmy Keinhorst, Mitch Garbutt

  • Despite being without numerous first team players including the likes of Stevie Ward and Adam Cuthbertson, Leeds managed to end St Helens’ perfect start to the season with a superb 20-28 victory.
  • Head coach Brian McDermott has named the same 19-man squad from the win over Saints with none of his injured troops managing to recover in time for this fixture.
  • Leeds are looking for their tenth consecutive Super League victory on home soil. Even though they aren’t playing at their traditional home of Headingley, a win at Elland Road would be Leeds’ second at that venue this season.

CASTLEFORD TIGERS

Head Coach: Daryl Powell

Squad: Clare, Cook, Ellis, Foster, Gale, Green, Hitchcox, Massey, McMeeken, McShane, Millington, Milner, Minikin, Moors, Roberts, Sene-Lefao, Shenton, Springer, Trueman, Webster

Unavailable: Joe Wardle, Greg Eden, Liam Watts, Oliver Holmes, Jesse Sene-Lefao

  • Castleford fell the victim of the weather for the second time this season as their game against Wigan was postponed on the morning of the game last weekend.
  • Daryl Powell has made one change to the 19-man squad he selected for the Wigan game last week with Jesse Sene-Lefao picking up an MCL injury so Jy Hitchcox takes his place.
  • Castleford have been dominant over Leeds in recent years and before last year’s Grand Final, had beaten the Rhinos on eight consecutive occasions in Super League.

THE PREDICTION

Leeds’ injury-hit squad continue to impress with them putting in a superb display to end St Helens’ 100% start to the season last week. They face another big test this time around as they play host – at Elland Road – to Castleford in a repeat of last season’s Grand Final. The Tigers didn’t have a game last week due to their game with Wigan falling foul of the weather so should be feeling fresh. However, they will have to be on top of their game to beat Leeds on current form and it’s the Rhinos who can extend their winning run here.
