THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS

Head Coach: Chris Thorman

Squad: Clough, Dickinson, English, Ferguson, Gaskell, Ikahihifo, Lawrence, Murphy, O’Brien, Rankin, Roberts, I. Senior, L. Senior, Simpson, Smith, Ta’ai, Turner, Wakeman, Walne

Unavailable: Leroy Cudjoe, Jake Mamo, Jermaine McGilvary, Kruise Leeming, Sam Wood, Danny Brough, Ryan Hinchcliffe, Colton Roche, Darnell McIntosh, Alex Mellor

  • Huddersfield couldn’t back up Good Friday’s superb point against Leeds as their inexperienced side fell to a disappointing defeat at Catalans. The Giants couldn’t live with the Dragons’ ball movement in the second half as they went down 27-6.
  • Tom Symonds left the club this week after an injury-riddled stay with the Giants. Danny Brough is again unavailable after missing Monday’s clash with the Dragons with the Giants likely to again field a very under-strength squad.
  • Huddersfield now have the worst defensive record in Super League and must start picking up wins if they are to avoid the Middle 8s. They have conceded 243 from their nine games, an average of 27 points per game and they are just one point above bottom-placed Catalans.

CASTLEFORD TIGERS

Head Coach: Daryl Powell

Squad: Eden, Ellis, Foster, Gale, Holmes, Massey, McMeeken, McShane, Millington, Milner, Minikin, Moors, Roberts, Sene-Lefao, Shenton, Springer, Trueman, Wardle, Watts, Webster

Unavailable: Jy Hitchcox, Jesse Sene-Lefao, James Green, Matt Cook, James Clare

  • Castleford lost at home to Warrington as their second game of the Easter period was played in even worse conditions than the first. Having beaten Wakefield in awful weather, the Tigers went down 6-18 in monsoon-like conditions with plenty of standing water on the pitch.
  • Greg Eden and Joe Wardle have recovered from their respective injuries to take their place in Daryl Powell’s 19-man squad after a number of weeks out. Matt Cook and James Clare are the two to make way.
  • Of their seven games this season, Castleford have failed to cross the whitewash for the final try of the game. They are not finishing games well with Warrington scoring just before the hooter to seal the win on Monday.

THE PREDICTION

Chris Thorman was given a rude awakening as interim Huddersfield head coach as his side lost to Catalans on Monday. Following their impressive display against Leeds on Good Friday which earned them a point, bottom-placed Catalans won just their second game of the season against a Giants side lacking some of their more experienced players. Castleford failed to handle the wet conditions as well as Warrington as they too lost on Monday. The Tigers were in good form before that game having won their last five and they will get back on track with a win here.
