THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

CATALANS DRAGONS

Head Coach: Steve McNamara

Squad: Albert, Anderson, Baitieri, Belmas, Bird, Casty, Da Costa, Drinkwater, Duport, Goudemand, Jullien, Margalet, Maria, McIlorum, Mead, Moa, Perez, Tierney, Wiliame

Unavailable: Jodie Broughton, Samisoni Langi, Julian Bousquet, Mickael Simon, Ben Garcia, Kenny Edwards, Tony Gigot

  • Catalans ended their six-match losing streak in Super League as they defeated fellow strugglers Hull FC last week. The Dragons looked set for defeat when Hull took the lead heading into the final ten minutes but two late tries sealed a 20-26 win.

  • Louis Anderson returns to the squad and could make his final appearance in rugby league with the back-rower set to retire after this game. Remi Casty is also back to lead his side for the final time this season with Tony Gigot and Kenny Edwards both out through injury.

  • Catalans will be looking for a win in front of their home fans to cap off a memorable 2018. The French side lifted the Challenge Cup and have built some good foundations ahead of next season when they will be looking to compete for the Super League crown.

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS

Head Coach: Simon Woolford

Squad: Brough, Clough, Cudjoe, English, Gaskell, Hinchcliffe, Lawrence, Leeming, Mamo, Matagi, McGilvary, Mellor, O’Brien, Rankin, Roberts, Roche, Russell, I. Senior, L. Senior

Unavailable: Sebastine Ikahihifo, Aaron Murphy, Dale Ferguson, Darnell McIntosh, Jordan Turner, Daniel Smith, Jake Wardle, Ukuma Ta’ai

  • Huddersfield put in a game performance against Wigan last week but lacked quality with ball-in-hand as they went down in awful conditions. The Giants had plenty of opportunities near the Warriors’ line but couldn’t take them as they went down 6-13.

  • Jermaine McGilvary and Leroy Cudjoe return to the squad along with youngster Louis Senior. Ukuma Ta’ai misses out through injury whilst Sam Hewitt and Jon Luke Kirby also drop out of the 19.

  • Having produced a wonderful run midway through the season, Huddersfield put themselves into semi-final contention only to fall away with four defeats in a row. They will be looking to avoid making it five consecutive losses with a win giving them a chance of claiming fifth place.

THE PREDICTION

Nobody associated with Catalans Dragons will ever forget 2018 as they made history by lifting the Challenge Cup at Wembley in August. Their attentions will soon turn to next season as they look set for an assault on Super League with some big arrivals, led by Sam Tomkins, set to join the French outfit. They host Huddersfield in their final game of the season with both teams eager to end the season on a high. The Giants will believe they can have a proper tilt at the top 4 next season with the arrival of Simon Woolford turning their fortunes around midway through this season. With nothing to play for, this could be an entertaining game with both likely to play some free-flowing, attacking rugby but it’s Catalans who can claim the win on home soil.
