THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

CATALANS DRAGONS

Head Coach: Steve McNamara

Squad: Aiton, Baitieri, Bird, Broughton, Bousquet, Casty, Da Costa, Garcia, Gigot, Jullien, Langi, Margalet, McIllorum, Mead, Moa, Simon, Tierney, Wiliame, Yaha

Unavailable: Luke Walsh, Louis Anderson, Vincent Duport, Lucas Albert, Iain Thornley

  • Catalans’ miserable season continued as they fell to yet another defeat, this time at the hands of Salford. The Dragons went behind early on and couldn’t get back into the game as they went down 32-16.
  • Catalans have named an unchanged squad for the game with Luke Walsh still unavailable. There have been rumours circulating that he may struggle to ever regain fitness with the Dragons apparently in the market for a replacement.
  • Catalans remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just one win from eight games. They have scored just 92 points at an average of 11.5 points per game.

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS

Head Coach: Chris Thorman

Squad: Brough, Clough, Dickinson, English, Hinchcliffe, Ikahihifo, Lawrence, McIntosh, Mellor, Murphy, O’Brien, Rankin, Roche, Roberts, I. Senior, Simpson, Smith, Ta’ai, Turner

Unavailable: Leroy Cudjoe, Shannon Wakeman, Tom Symonds, Jake Mamo, Jermaine McGilvary, Lee Gaskell, Kruise Leeming, Sam Wood, Tyler Dickinson, Adam Walne

  • Chris Thorman gained a valuable point in his first game as interim charge as Huddersfield held Leeds on Good Friday. The Giants’ young side were within four points of a famous win but conceded a late try that saw a share of the spoils in a 22-22 draw.
  • Tyler Dickinson, Sam Hewitt, Louis Senior and Adam Walne drop out for the Giants with Innes Senior, Matty English, Colton Roche and Dale Ferguson coming in to the 19-man squad.
  • Having conceded 86 points in their previous two games under ex-head coach Rick Stone, Huddersfield showed some defensive mettle to restrict the Rhinos to 22 points but still possess the joint-worst defence in the league along with their opponents in this game.

THE PREDICTION

Catalans host Huddersfield in a game between the two teams that have conceded the most amount of points so far this season. They have each conceded 216 points which is an average of 27 points per game. Their defence isn’t the only problem that both teams have faced this season with their discipline letting them down; 149 penalties have been conceded between the two and that could set the tone for what could be a scrappy contest. If Catalans fail to win this it could be the final straw for Steve McNamara but Huddersfield battled well for a point against Leeds on Friday and their young side could back that up with a win here for interim head coach Chris Thorman.
