THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

TIGERS

Head Coach: Ivan Cleary

Starting 13: Mbye, Nofoaluma, Marsters, Fonua, Naiqama, Marshall, Brooks, Packer, Farah, Matulino, Lawrence, Chee Kam, Eisenhuth – Interchanges: Twal, Sue, Garner, Aloiai – Reserves: Liddle, Watene-Zelezniak

Unavailable: Josh Reynolds, Corey Thompson, Elijah Taylor

  • Wests Tigers put in an underwhelming performance in their must-win game against St George last week and suffered a defeat that will probably mean they miss out on the play-offs. The Tigers went down 10-20 against the Dragons in a deserved loss.

  • Elijah Taylor is out with a thigh injury so Matt Eisenhuth starts at lock whilst Josh Aloiai returns on the bench. Alex Twal also comes back into the side for Jacob Liddle who drops to the reserves.

  • Whilst they are not mathematically out of the top 8 picture, Wests need a minor miracle to play finals football. Last week’s loss sees the Tigers sit four points outside of the play-off spots with just four to play for whilst they also need to overturn a significant points differential.

SEA EAGLES

Head Coach: Trent Barrett

Starting 13: T. Trbojevic, Taufua, Suli, Kelly, Parker, Walker, Cherry-Evans, Fonua-Blake, Fainu, Taupau, Thompson, Lane, J. Trbojevic – Interchanges: Hodkinson, Tanginoa, Gosiewski, Perrett – Reserves: Winterstein, M. Wright

Unavailable: Curtis Sironen, Lachlan Croker, Api Koroisau, Akuila Uate

  • Manly were involved in a high-scoring encounter with Gold Coast last week but came out on the wrong end of the score. Manly went in to the break 16 points ahead but succumbed to an improved effort by the Titans in the second half as they went down 34-42.

  • Trent Barrett has made just one change to his side with Jack Gosiewski back in the side in place of Frank Winterstein.

  • Manly couldn’t make it three wins in a row last week and will be hoping to bounce back immediately after falling into wooden spoon jeopardy.

THE PREDICTION

Wests Tigers suffered a crushing defeat last week that all but ended their charge towards the play-offs. Whilst it wasn’t a heavy loss in terms of the scoreline, it meant the Tigers will need a helping hand if they are to secure an unlikely spot in the play-offs. They sit four points outside of the top 8 with just two games remaining and although there are still two teams they can catch, Wests are huge outsiders to qualify for the finals. If they are to stand any chance, they must overcome Manly first and foremost. The Sea Eagles were involved in a disappointing high-scoring defeat last week as they allowed the Titans to beat them with a solid second half display. They ended that game well and with the wooden spoon on the line, they can claim the win that will end the season for the Tigers.
