THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

ROOSTERS

Head Coach: Trent Robinson

Starting 13: Tedesco, Robinson, Mitchell, Manu, Ferguson, Keary, Cronk, Taukeiaho, Friend, Napa, Cordner, Matterson, Liu – Interchanges: Waerea-Hargreaves, Tetevano, Aubusson, Radley – Reserves: Butcher, Baptiste, Cornish, Nuuausala

Unavailable: Daniel Tupou

  • Sydney Roosters showed some glimpses of why they are tipped to have a big season with new signings Cooper Cronk and James Tedesco stealing the show in a 30-12 win.
  • Reece Robinson will make his club debut and is set for an extended run in the side with Daniel Tupou suffering a pectoral injury that will sideline him until at least Round 13.
  • Blake Ferguson was once again a huge asset to the Roosters. Having made 268 metres in Round 1, the winger added 224 metres against the Bulldogs to ensure he remains at the top of the metres made chart.

KNIGHTS

Head Coach: Nathan Brown

Starting 13: Ponga, Kenny-Dowall, S. Mata'utia, Moga, Ross, Watson, Pearce, Ese'ese, Griffin, Lillyman, Fitzgibbon, Guerra, Barnett – Interchanges: Lamb, Heighington, Buhrer, D. Saifiti – Reserves: Sio, J. Saifiti, Levi, Yates

Unavailable: Dylan Phythian

  • Newcastle’s new-look side maintained their 100% start to the season with an impressive win at Canberra. A Sione Mata’utia try in the 73rd minute was enough to seal the two points in a 28-30 victory.
  • Nathan Brown has made just one change to the side that beat the Raiders with co-captain Jamie Buhrer returning at the expense of Jacob Saifiti.
  • The Knights were clinical with the ball, only failing to complete five sets of their 32. They also managed to find the line more than their opponents despite having 46% of the ball.

THE PREDICTION

Sydney Roosters host Newcastle Knights in a game that has a bit of added spice with Mitchell Pearce returning to his former club for the first time. Pearce left following the signing of Cooper Cronk who pushed him down the pecking order and will be keen to prove a point to his former employer. He has been integral in the Knights’ remarkable start to the season which has seen them beat both the Sea Eagles and Raiders but the Roosters pose a much tougher test and should get the win.
