THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

ROOSTERS

Head Coach: Trent Robinson

Starting 13: Tedesco, Tupou, Mitchell, Manu, Ferguson, Keary, Cronk, Napa, Friend, Taukeiaho, Cordner, Liu, Radley – Interchanges: Butcher, Tetevano, Aubusson, Matterson – Reserves: Waerea-Hargreaves, Collins

Unavailable:

  • Sydney Roosters fell to a shock defeat last week against Canberra in the nation’s capital. The Roosters outscored their opponents two tries to one but ill-discipline cost them dear as four penalty goals edged the Raiders ahead and condemned the Roosters to a 14-12 loss.

  • The Roosters are boosted by the return of Luke Keary who comes into the side at five-eighth with Ryan Matterson reverting to the bench and Sean O’Sullivan dropping out. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has been named amongst the reserves and could be a late call-up.

  • After five successive wins, the defeat last week couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Roosters as they surrendered top place on the NRL ladder. They must now look to win their last two matches and hope Melbourne slip up or overcome a points differential of 16 points.

BRONCOS

Head Coach: Wayne Bennett

Starting 13: Boyd, Oates, Roberts, Kahu, Isaako, Milford, Nikorima, Lodge, McCullough, Thaiday, Glenn, Pangai Jnr, McGuire – Interchanges: Staggs, Ofahengaue, Sims, Fifita – Reserves: Mago, Dargan

Unavailable: Andre Savelio, Matt Gillett, Jack Bird, Payne Haas, Jayden Su’A

  • Brisbane returned to winning ways with an impressive win over South Sydney Rabbitohs last week. Despite their opponents missing plenty of talent in the outside backs, the Broncos were clinical late on and ensured they claimed an important 38-18 win.

  • Matt Lodge has been named to start instead of Joe Ofahengaue who drops to the bench. Kotoni Staggs comes onto the bench in place of Patrick Mago in the only personnel change from last week.

  • A third loss in a row could have been catastrophic for the Broncos with Wests Tigers still chasing the pack outside of the play-off spots. However, last week’s win left the Brisbane side in a great position to secure their place in the finals with them now just needing one competition point to be mathematically safe.

THE PREDICTION

Sydney Roosters host Brisbane Broncos in an important game for both teams with the Roosters still hoping to claim the minor Premiership whilst the Broncos still aren’t secure in the top 8. They need just a point to ensure they are in the finals but will face a tough test in Sydney. The Roosters welcome back Luke Keary and that alone should see an improved performance from last week’s disappointing loss to the Raiders. The Broncos on the other hand were impressive against the Rabbitohs and will be looking to back that up here. However, this will be a very tough ask against the best defence in the NRL and the Roosters can claim the win to keep themselves in the race for top spot.
