THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

RABBITOHS

Head Coach: Anthony Seibold

Starting 13: Johnston, Burns, Hunt, Gagai, Kennar, Walker, Reynolds, T. Burgess, Cook, G. Burgess, Sutton, Crichton, S. Burgess – Interchanges: Murray, Clark, Tatola, Brittain – Reserves: Britt, Fuimaono

Unavailable: Greg Inglis, Adam Doueihi, Robert Jennings, Campbell Graham

  • South Sydney produced a second half defensive masterclass as they saw off Melbourne to leapfrog the Storm at the top of the NRL ladder. Souths were brutal in defence, severely restricting the Storm’s go-forward to overcome a half-time deficit and secure a 30-20 win.

  • Adam Doueihi suffered an ACL injury last week and will miss the rest of the season whilst starting wingers Campbell Graham and Robert Jennings are both out. Braidon Burns and Richie Kennar will start on the wing with Billy Brittain taking Doueihi’s place on the bench.

  • The Rabbitohs have won 11 of their last 12 games and having retaken the lead at the top of the ladder, will be keen to stay there and claim the minor Premiership.

ROOSTERS

Head Coach: Trent Robinson

Starting 13: Tedesco, Tupou, Mitchell, Manu, Ferguson, Matterson, Cronk, Waerea-Hargreaves, Friend, Taukeiaho, Cordner, Liu, Radley – Interchanges: Napa, Tetevano, Aubusson, O’Sullivan – Reserves: Butcher, Collins

Unavailable: Luke Keary

  • Sydney Roosters had to cling on against North Queensland last week. After racing ahead and opening up an 18-point lead early in the second half, the Roosters had to be on the ball defensively to soak up plenty of pressure from the Cowboys as they held on to win 26-20.

  • The Roosters are unchanged from last week with Ryan Matterson set to start in the halves once again in the absence of Luke Keary.

  • With eight wins from their last nine matches, the Roosters are in good form and are in striking distance of their Sydney rivals at the top of the ladder with just two points separating the Rabbitohs and Roosters.

THE PREDICTION

The big Sydney derby takes on even more importance in this game in this huge encounter between the Rabbitohs and Roosters. Souths produced a superb performance to topple Melbourne last week and take their place at the top of the NRL ladder whilst the Roosters claimed a win against the Cowboys. With both teams in good form, this should be a brilliant affair and is extremely difficult to call. The Rabbitohs are weakened in the backs after picking up several injuries last week whilst the Roosters showed signs of missing Luke Keary in the halves last week. Both have enough to claim the win here but if the Rabbitohs can match last week’s effort, they’ll take some stopping.
