THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

RABBITOHS

Head Coach: Anthony Seibold

Starting 13: Johnston, Kennar, Inglis, Gagai, Jennings, Walker, Reynolds, T. Burgess, Cook, G. Burgess, Sutton, Crichton, S. Burgess – Interchanges: Doueihi, Nicholls, Clark, Tatola – Reserves: Hunt, Turner

  • South Sydney produced arguably their best performance under head coach Anthony Seibold to defeat their bitter local rivals Sydney Roosters last week. The Rabbitohs were the better side and deserved their win, running out 14-26 winners.
  • Sam Burgess returns from a two-match ban and will start at lock. His return has seen Jason Clark drop to the interchange bench with Kyle Turner dropping to the reserves.
  • The Rabbitohs continued their impressive metre-making last week with it proving too much for the Roosters to cope with. They ran for 1,742 metres, over 200 more than the Roosters managed (1,534). The Rabbitohs top the NRL in metres made with 9,986 and will look to keep rolling down the field again this week.

RAIDERS

Head Coach: Ricky Stuart

Starting 13: Wighton, Cotric, Croker, Leilua, Rapana, Austin, Sezer, Soliola, Havili, Paulo, Tapine, Whitehead, Bateman – Interchanges: Hingano, Boyd, Papalii, Lui – Reserves: Knight, Oldfield

Unavailable: Josh Hodgson, Charlie Gubb, Sam Williams

  • Canberra produced a solid display in the rain to win back-to-back games as they defeated Parramatta last week. The Raiders looked the better team throughout and never looked like losing with them eventually taking an 18-2 victory.
  • Ricky Stuart has named the same 17 from last week as his side look to continue their upturn in form.
  • The Raiders did some good things in attack last week despite the tricky conditions. They made 42 tackle breaks as well as four line breaks whilst also not allowing the Eels to make a line break all game.

THE PREDICTION

South Sydney and Canberra face off in an intriguing looking contest at Central Coast Stadium. Both teams have started to hit a bit of form after early season inconsistencies and will be eager to continue picking up competition points. The Rabbitohs backed up a decent display against league leaders St George, where they fell just four points short after a late comeback, with a great win over rivals Sydney Roosters last week. The Raiders made it back-to-back wins with a win over the sorry Eels but they were also impressive in victory and never looked like losing. This could be a great contest by two teams on the up but the Rabbitohs can take the spoils.
