THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

RABBITOHS

Head Coach: Anthony Seibold

Starting 13: Johnston, Kennar, Inglis, Gagai, Jennings, Walker, Reynolds, T. Burgess, Cook, G. Burgess, Sutton, Crichton, Murray – Interchanges: Doueihi, Nicholls, Clark, Tatola – Reserves: Hunt, Turner

Unavailable: Zane Musgrove, Jesse Arthars, Tyrell Fuimaono, Sam Burgess

  • South Sydney’s rise up the NRL ladder continued as they put on a superb attacking performance to defeat Canberra last week. The Rabbitohs ran in seven tries as they defeated the Raiders 42-22.
  • Sam Burgess will sit out after copping another suspension. The England forward will miss the next two games after a high shot on Aidan Sezer with Cameron Murray replacing him at lock after recovering from a hamstring injury.
  • The Rabbitohs have begun to put in some consistent performances over the last few games but will be looking to sort their discipline out moving forward. They have conceded 74 penalties so far this season, the second highest in the NRL.

BRONCOS

Head Coach: Wayne Bennett

Starting 13: Boyd, Oates, Roberts, Opacic, Isaako, Milford, Bird, Lodge, McGuire, Thaiday, Glenn, Su’A, Pangai Jnr – Interchanges: Tagataese, Ofahengaue, Nikorima, Sims – Reserves: Pearson, Haas

Unavailable: Andre Savelio, Jordan Kahu, Matt Gillett, Andrew McCullough

  • Brisbane were beaten at home by Melbourne last week in an intriguing contest. The Broncos took an early lead but were soon well behind on the scoreboard and despite getting back into the game in the second half, the Storm proved too strong as they won 20-34.
  • Wayne Bennett will be without the services of hooker Andrew McCullough for around six weeks after he suffered an elbow injury last week. Josh McGuire switches to rake with Tevita Pangai Jnr moving to lock and Sam Tagataese coming onto the bench.
  • The Broncos only made 1,115 metres from 146 runs last week, an average of just 7.64m per carry. They also allowed the Storm to make 9.39m per carry with improvements needed on both sides of the ball this week.

THE PREDICTION

South Sydney continued to impress last week as they claimed a big win against Canberra. They now play host to a stuttering Brisbane side that will be without hooker Andrew McCullough, an injury which has caused numerous changes to the Broncos pack. The Rabbitohs are improving all the time with ball-in-hand as they capitalise on the amount of metres they are making, topping the NRL for metres made so far this season. They have scored the second highest number of tries so far this season with 30 and will be looking for another free-flowing display as they bid to win their third game in a row against a Broncos side still searching for consistency this season.
