THE LOWDOWN

PANTHERS

Head Coach: Anthony Griffin

Starting 13: Peachey, Mansour, Blake, Whare, Watene-Zelezniak, Maloney, Cleary, Leota, Katoa, Tamou, Kikau, Yeo, Fisher-Harris – Interchanges: May, Merrin, Hetherington, Harawira-Naera – Reserves: Campbell-Gillard, Ellis

Unavailable: Sam McKendry, Dylan Edwards, Jarome Luai

  • Penrith scored 22 points in a seven minute spell late on to overturn an 18-point deficit and defeat Manly last week. The Panthers were poor for the majority of the game but turned it on when it mattered to claim the 24-28 win.

  • Anthony Griffin has named the same side as last week but Reagan Campbell-Gillard is named amongst the reserves and is likely to come back into the side having recovered from a broken jaw.

  • After looking down the barrel of a third straight defeat and their fifth loss from their last six games last week, the Panthers managed to avoid that with their superb late comeback. They will hope that win can provide them with the platform to fight back into the top 4.

RAIDERS

Head Coach: Ricky Stuart

Starting 13: Cotric, Abbey, Austin, Leilua, Rapana, Sezer, Williams, Soliola, Hodgson, Paulo, Tapine, Whitehead, Papalii – Interchanges: Lui, Boyd, Havili, Bateman – Reserves: Knight, Murchie, Makatoa, Guler

Unavailable: Jack Wighton, Jarrod Croker

  • Canberra were on the end of a big score as Melbourne took them apart last week. The Storm were too good in all departments as they ran in seven tries, condemning the Raiders to a 44-10 defeat.

  • Blake Austin will line up in the unfamiliar position of centre due to the return of Aidan Sezer in the halves. Brad Abbey will play on the wing with Nick Cotric given the nod to play at fullback. Shannon Boyd is back from a calf injury with Jack Murchie and Liam Knight the two who make way.

  • It looked like the cue had gone on the rack from the Raiders last week as they struggled to overcome the controversial defeat at Cronulla in their previous game that all but ended their season and it will be interesting to see their reaction here.

THE PREDICTION

Penrith’s mentality heading into this game would have been a lot different had they not come back to avoid a third straight defeat last week. Instead, they produced a brilliant comeback to win the game against Manly despite been 18 points down with just 13 minutes remaining. They now host a Canberra side whose season is over after a big loss to Melbourne last week. The Raiders will just want this season to end after what they feel will be numerous decisions costing them tight games but ultimately, they haven’t done enough over the course of the season. The Panthers should be full of confidence after last week’s stunning finish and should claim the win at home.
