THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

COWBOYS

Head Coach: Paul Green

Starting 13: Coote, Feldt, O'Neill, Hampton, Winterstein, Morgan, Thurston, Scott, Granville, Bolton, Cooper, Hess, Taumalolo – Interchanges: Martin, Fensom, Jensen, Lowe – Reserves: Molo, Tuala

Unavailable: Josh Chudleigh, Kane Linnett, Jordan McLean, John Asiata

  • North Queensland claimed a much needed win last week as they saw off Gold Coast and will be looking for back-to-back home wins. The Cowboys were too good for the Titans as they completed a 26-14 victory.
  • It’s one in and one out for the Cowboys with John Asiata missing out after suffering a pectoral injury last week. However, in a huge boost, Shaun Fensom returns from the broken leg he suffered in last season’s Grand Final.
  • The Cowboys were far from perfect last week but begun to show signs that they can kick-start their season. They still have areas to tighten up on with them making 12 errors during the Titans game.

RAIDERS

Head Coach: Ricky Stuart

Starting 13: Wighton, Cotric, Croker, Leilua, Rapana, Austin, Sezer, Soliola, Havili, Paulo, Tapine, Whitehead, Papalii – Interchanges: Hingano, Boyd, Bateman, Lui – Reserves: Knight, Oldfield

Unavailable: Josh Hodgson, Charlie Gubb, Sam Williams

  • Canberra suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of South Sydney last week. The Rabbitohs ran in seven tries as the Raiders failed to stop Souths from rolling up the field with the score ending 42-22.
  • Ricky Stuart has named the same 17 as last week but makes one slight alteration to his side with Josh Papalii coming into the run-on side at lock with Luke Bateman dropping to the bench.
  • Canberra completed at just 69% last week which stopped them from developing any momentum. The Raiders also allowed Souths to make too many metres with them averaging 4.6 per set more than Canberra.

THE PREDICTION

After a poor start to the season, North Queensland showed some promising signs last week and will be looking for back-to-back home wins in Townsville. They face a Canberra side coming off a heavy loss last week as they went down to South Sydney. Both teams need the points as the ladder begins to take shape with neither side wanting to fall too far behind the top 8 at this stage of the season. The Cowboys remained just one place above the foot of the table despite last week’s win but will leapfrog the Raiders with another win here.
