THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

KNIGHTS

Head Coach: Nathan Brown

Starting 13: Ponga, Sio, S. Mata'utia, Denniss, Kenny-Dowall, Watson, Cogger, Ese’ese, Griffin, Lillyman, Fitzgibbon, Barnett, Guerra – Interchanges: Levi, Heighington, Buhrer, King – Reserves: Yates, Meaney

Unavailable: Tautau Moga, Mitchell Pearce, Jacob Saifiti, Nathan Ross, Daniel Saifiti

  • Newcastle punished a poor Parramatta team as they brought their run of four straight losses to an end. The Knights were the dominant side throughout and would have kept the Eels scoreless but for a late consolation try in a 4-30 win.

  • Herman Ese’ese comes into the starting line-up at prop after he served his ban. Jacob Lillyman has also been promoted to a starting role after initially been named in the reserves with the news that the ever-improving Daniel Saifiti has been ruled out for at least a month.

  • The Knights were almost faultless last week and it told in the stats. They made more metres per set, more line breaks and more tackle busts than the Eels which all contributed to their impressive win.

ROOSTERS

Head Coach: Trent Robinson

Starting 13: Tedesco, Tupou, Mitchell, Manu, Ferguson, Keary, Cronk, Waerea-Hargreaves, Friend, Napa, Cordner, Taukeiaho, Liu – Interchanges: Tetevano, Baptiste, Aubusson, Radley – Reserves: Butcher, Collins, Momirovski

Unavailable: Ryan Matterson

  • Sydney Roosters were able to overcome the absence of their Origin stars as they held on to win a thrilling contest to beat Wests last week. The Roosters had to fend off a late Tigers onslaught with them making two try-saving tackles in the dying minutes to claim a narrow 16-14 win.

  • Origin Man of the Match James Tedesco comes back into the Roosters side along with the three other Origin representatives Latrell Mitchell, Boyd Cordner and Dylan Napa. Ryan Matterson is still out with his symptoms from concussion.

  • The Roosters and Tigers were very evenly matched last week. However, despite leading the league in ineffective tackles with 274, the Roosters made fewer ineffective tackles than their opponents last week. They have been averaging 22 ineffective tackles per game this season but made less than half of that with just nine last week.

THE PREDICTION

The Knights and Roosters face-off after both picking up important wins during the reduced Round 13 last week. Newcastle dominated bottom-placed Parramatta whilst Sydney Roosters won a brilliant contest against Wests which was still in the balance as the final hooter went. The Roosters now find themselves just two points outside of the top 4 and will be keen to keep the pressure on the sides above them. Newcastle are still chasing finals football and sit four points outside of the 8 with this a crucial game for the Knights. They have been poor of late but turned that around with a clinical display last week albeit against a poor outfit. This game could go either way but with the Roosters boosted by their Origin stars back in the fold, they can claim their third consecutive win.
