THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

TITANS

Head Coach: Garth Brennan

Starting 13: Gordon, Don, Copley, Lee, Sami, Brimson, Taylor, Wallace, Peats, James, Proctor, Matthews, Arrow – Interchanges: Rein, King, Fotuaika, Hipgrave – Reserves: Stockwell, Boyle

Unavailable: Kyle Flanagan, Ryan Simpkins

  • Gold Coast fell apart in the second half of their last outing against Sydney Roosters. The Titans went into the break 6-14 up but conceded 28 points in a poor second half showing in which they failed to score themselves as they went down 34-14.

  • Phillip Sami comes in for Konrad Hurrell on the wing with Will Matthews also returning to the second row which means Keegan Hipgrave moves to the bench. Bryce Cartwright has been dropped with Garth Brennan finally losing patience with the under-performing star.

  • The Titans’ capitulation against the Roosters meant that they have won just one of their last seven matches. Their points difference is a real concern with them currently sitting on -109, the second lowest total in the league due to Parramatta surpassing that total when they played last week whilst Gold Coast were on a bye.

RABBITOHS

Head Coach: Anthony Seibold

Starting 13: Johnston, Graham, Doueihi, Hunt, Jennings, Walker, Reynolds, T. Burgess, Farah, G. Burgess, Sutton, Murray, S. Burgess – Interchanges: Cook, Crichton, Clark, Tatola – Reserves: Nicholls, Fuimaono, Hiroti

Unavailable: Zane Musgrove, Jesse Arthars, Richie Kennar, Greg Inglis, Dane Gagai

  • Despite missing four players to Origin, Souths produced a solid performance to defeat the league’s in-form team in Cronulla last week. The Rabbitohs controlled the game with two late tries for the Sharks taking the score to 22-14 which wasn’t a true reflection of the game.

  • Greg Inglis and Dane Gagai won’t back up after representing Queensland in Origin but Angus Crichton and Damien Cook are named on the bench after playing for the Blues. Robbie Farah retains his place at hooker with Cameron Murray starting in the second row whilst Adam Doueihi and Hymel Hunt line up in the centres.

  • Souths have won five games in a row now with them making their way to third-place in the NRL table. Part of the reason behind the Rabbitohs’ run is their ability to score points regularly with them scoring 20 points or more in their last eight matches.

THE PREDICTION

South Sydney have been playing some great footy this season with them currently sitting on top of the tries scored table with 53, eight more than their nearest competitors in St George and Manly with 45. Their run of five wins in a row has seen them climb to third-place on the ladder, just two points behind leaders Penrith. They travel to a Gold Coast side who are at the other end of the spectrum in terms of form having won just one game from their last seven. They have had a week off so will come into this the fresher of the two teams but Souths have played with plenty of energy this season and will do the same in this encounter. The Rabbitohs will miss the influence of captain Greg Inglis but Anthony Seibold’s men can continue their impressive run of form with another win here.
