THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

TITANS

Head Coach: Garth Brennan

Starting 13: Gordon, Don, Hurrell, Lee, Sami, Brimson, Taylor, Wallace, Peats, James, Proctor, Hipgrave, Arrow – Interchanges: Rein, Fotuaika, Stockwell, Matthews – Reserves: Latu, Elliot, Boyle, Elgey

Unavailable: Kyle Flanagan, Max King, Bryce Cartwright, Dale Copley

  • Gold Coast again posted a decent number of points away from home but were unable to claim the win against Newcastle. The Titans scored 24 points after averaging 31 points in their previous two away games that they won but the Knights outscored them, posting 30 points.

  • Will Matthews comes onto the bench in place of Leilani Latu in the only change for the Titans.

  • The Titans lost their third game in a row last week whilst they’ve also lost their last three home games.

WARRIORS

Head Coach: Stephen Kearney

Starting 13: Tuivasa-Sheck, Fusitu’a, Beale, Kata, Maumalo, Green, Johnson, Gavet, Paasi, Papali’i, Mannering – Interchanges: Tevaga, Lisone, Vuna, Afoa – Reserves: Hiku, Lawton, Pulu, Lino

Unavailable: Nathaniel Roache, Tevita Satae, Adam Blair, Tohu Harris, Issac Luke

  • New Zealand Warriors fell to defeat against Melbourne in what was an entertaining game at Mt Smart. In a low scoring contest, the Storm did just enough as they kept the Warriors pointless in the second half to seal a 6-12 win.

  • Issac Luke and Tohu Harris have both been withdrawn with the Warriors yet to name their replacements in the starting 13. Adam Blair is banned so Simon Mannering starts at lock whilst Blake Green returns from injury to replace Mason Lino at five-eighth.

  • The Warriors were impressive as they defeated Brisbane before hosting Melbourne but some will point to their inconsistencies costing them again. The Kiwi side have won three and lost three from their last six games which has seen them drop to eighth.

THE PREDICTION

If New Zealand Warriors want to challenge for the Premiership this season, they must find some consistency as we head towards finals football. They couldn’t back up a wonderful performance against the Broncos and how head to Gold Coast needing a win with an under-strength side. They are just four points ahead of the ninth-placed Wests Tigers and will not want that gap closing in the run-in to the end of the regular season. The Titans’ season seems set to peter out with them too far back to reach the play-offs and they should have enough to avoid the wooden spoon. Despite missing some key men, the Warriors should respond to last week’s defeat with a win here.
