THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

TITANS

Head Coach: Garth Brennan

Starting 13: Gordon, Don, Copley, Hurrell, Sami, Elgey, Taylor, Wallace, Peats, James, Proctor, King, Aarow – Interchanges: Rein, Cartwright, Boyle, Hipgrave – Reserves: Stockwell, Roberts-Davis

Unavailable: Kyle Flanagan, Brenko Lee, Brendan Elliott, Will Matthews

  • Gold Coast produced a solid display to down Brisbane at the Suncorp Stadium last week. The Titans raced into an early 0-10 lead and never looked back, eventually going on to claim a 14-26 win.
  • Will Matthews drops out of the side with Max King taking his place in the back-row. Keegan Hipgrave fills the void left on the bench.
  • Despite the impressive win last week, Gold Coast need to work on their discipline moving forward. They were on the wrong end of a 4-11 penalty count against the Broncos and it may cost them in future games if they are on the end of a big count.

SEA EAGLES

Head Coach: Trent Barrett

Starting 13: M. Wright, Parker, Walker, Kelly, Uate, Croker, Cherry-Evans, Fonua-Blake, Koroisau, Taupau, Thompson, Winterstein, J. Trbojevic – Interchanges: Hastings, Lane, Perrett, Gosiewski – Reserves: T. Trbojevic, Paseka

Unavailable: Johnathan Wright, Jorge Taufua, Curtis Sironen, Kelepi Tanginoa

  • Manly responded to going behind early on against Canberra with the Sea Eagles blowing the Raiders away with four tries in a 15-minute spell to go in 26-6 up at the break. They took their foot off the gas in the second half but were still comfortable as they won 32-16.
  • Manly’s win last week came at a huge cost with both Curtis Sironen and Kelepi Tanginoa suffering season-ending ACL injuries. Star fullback Tom Trbojevic also suffered an ankle injury but could be a surprise late inclusion.
  • The Sea Eagles will be hoping Trbojevic’s injury doesn’t mean he misses any games due to the fullback’s crucial role in the side. He made 205 metres against the Raiders whilst also making three line breaks. Both of these were match-high totals.

THE PREDICTION

Gold Coast and Manly go head-to-head in an intriguing Sunday afternoon contest at Marley Brown Oval. The Titans were impressive as they kept the Broncos at length last week to claim their second win of the season whilst the Sea Eagles also claimed their second victory of the season with a win over the Raiders. Manly’s win came at a huge cost with them losing two players for the season as well as Tom Trbojevic to ankle injury. His potential late inclusion could be decisive and could be the difference between Manly winning and losing. If he plays, the Sea Eagles can win but will struggle without him due to how much he brings to their side and would leave the door open for the Titans.
