THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

TITANS

Head Coach: Garth Brennan

Starting 13: Gordon, Don, Elliot, Hurrell, Sami, Cartwright, Taylor, Wallace, Rein, James, Proctor, Matthews, Aarow – Interchanges: King, Stockwell, Hipgrave, Boyle – Reserves: Lee, Simpkins

Unavailable: Kyle Flanagan, Nathan Peats, Dale Copley

  • Gold Coast fell to defeat against North Queensland in Townsville last week. The Titans were unable to cross the whitewash until the 71st minute as the Cowboys controlled the game in the second half with the final score ending 26-14.
  • Garth Brennan has dropped five-eighth Kane Elgey after a poor performance last week with Bryce Cartwright replacing him. Morgan Boyle comes onto the bench with Brendan Elliot also returning to the side in place of Tyronne Roberts-Davis.
  • Gold Coast have conceded the most points of any NRL side this season with them allowing 197 at an average of 28.1 points per game.

SHARKS

Head Coach: Shane Flanagan

Starting 13: Dugan, Lee, Ramien, Leutele, Holmes, Moylan, Townsend, Fifita, Brailey, Prior, Sorensen, Paulo – Interchanges: Bukuya, Segeyaro, Seumanufagai, Dillion – Reserves: Capewell, Uele

Unavailable: Sione Katoa, Sosaia Feki, Paul Gallen, Luke Lewis, Wade Graham

  • Cronulla defended their line impressively as they held off a late fightback by Penrith to down the Panthers last week. The Sharks took their chances and kept the Panthers at bay as they held on for a 26-22 win.
  • Wade Graham is a late omission for the Sharks after initially being named in the starting 13. Luke Lewis also misses out but Jayson Bukuya provides a timely boost as he returns from injury on the bench.
  • Cronulla had to make 48 tackles more than the Panthers last week but stood firm in their quest for an important win. Penrith had more of the ball, completed more sets, made more metres and made less errors but a stubborn Sharks defence saw them home.

THE PREDICTION

Gold Coast head coach Garth Brennan has demanded more from his side this week and will hope the change at five-eighth can be the catalyst for that. Kane Elgey has been dropped in favour of Bryce Cartwright in a bid to change the fortunes of the Titans but it will be a tough contest against Cronulla. The Sharks scored an impressive win last week against high-flying Penrith with their goal-line defence standing firm. Cronulla will be looking to build on that win after an inconsistent start to the season with the Titans again unlikely to have enough to win the game.
