THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

SHARKS

Head Coach: Shane Flanagan

Starting 13: Dugan, Feki, Ramien, Leutele, Holmes, Moylan, Townsend, Fifita, Brailey, Prior, Lewis, Graham, Gallen – Interchanges: Capewell, Segeyaro, Seumanufagai, Paulo – Reserves: Hodkinson, Lee

Unavailable: Sione Katoa, Jason Bukuya

  • Cronulla won a scrappy game with Melbourne with Chad Townsend’s boot once again proving the difference. The Sharks have yet to miss a kick at goal this season with Townsend adding another five against the Storm which was enough for a 14-4 win.
  • Matt Moylan has been named at five-eighth with Trent Hodkinson dropping out of the 17. Josh Dugan returns at fullback after missing out last week with a groin injury which pushes Valentine Holmes back to the wing and Edrick Lee to the reserves.
  • Cronulla were more effective in possession than Melbourne in last week’s win, forcing the Storm to make 33 tackles more than them. Melbourne had more sets than Cronulla but the Sharks completed at 72% compared to the Storm’s 64%.

ROOSTERS

Head Coach: Trent Robinson

Starting 13: Tedesco, Robinson, Mitchell, Manu, Ferguson, Keary, Cronk, Taukeiaho, Friend, Napa, Cordner, Matterson, Liu – Interchanges: Waerea-Hargreaves, Tetevano, Aubusson, Radley – Reserves: Butcher, Baptiste

Unavailable: Daniel Tupou

  • Sydney Roosters were poor in defeat as they were comfortably beaten by New Zealand Warriors last week. Having taken the lead in the second minute, the Roosters found themselves behind soon after and never recovered as they went down 6-30.
  • The Roosters were second best across the board last week. They only saw 38% of the ball in last week’s loss, mainly due to their poor handling. They completed at just 59% with the Warriors also making 595 metres more than the Roosters managed.
  • Despite the manner of their performance last week, head coach Trent Robinson has decided against making any changes to his side with the Tricolours set to field the same 17.

THE PREDICTION

Cronulla Sharks host Sydney Roosters in a game between two teams that started the season with plenty of inconsistency. The Sharks have now won their last two after grinding out an ugly win over the Storm last week. They defended well but it was a game marred by a huge penalty count with a total of 33 blown in the game. The Roosters put in a poor performance as they were beaten at home by the Warriors and will need a huge improvement this week. This game could go either way – if the Sharks defend as well as last week then they can keep the Roosters at bay but the Tricolours will be looking for an instant reaction to last week’s effort and can edge a hard-fought game.
