THE STATISTICS

THE LOWDOWN

BULLDOGS

Head Coach: Dean Pay

Starting 13: Mbye, B. Morris, J. Morris, Hopoate, Montoya, Marshall-King, Foran, Woods, Lichaa, Klemmer, Jackson, Faitala-Mariner, Tolman – Interchanges: Elliott, Fine, Fualalo, Brown –Reserves: Tualau, Holland, Toomaga, Olive

Unavailable:

  • Dean Pay is still searching for his first win as Canterbury head coach after his side were outclassed by Sydney Roosters last weekend. The Bulldogs never recovered having gone in 18-0 behind at the break, eventually losing 30-12.
  • Pay has made a big change in the halves with Jeremy Marshall-King coming into the side for Matt Frawley. Aiden Tolman also starts the game at lock with Adam Elliott dropping to the bench.
  • Canterbury struggled to make metres against the Roosters with them only making 1479 from 201 runs, an average of 7.36m a carry. They also struggled to contain the Roosters making metres with them making 1784 metres from 167 for 10.68m per carry.

PANTHERS

Head Coach: Anthony Griffin

Starting 13: Edwards, Mansour, Blake, Whare, Watene-Zelezniak, Maloney, Cleary, Tamou, Wallace, Campbell-Gillard, Kikau, Yeo, Merrin – Interchanges: Peachey, Harawira-Naera, Leota, Fisher-Harris – Reserves: Katoa, Lui-Toso, Luai, Crichton

Unavailable: Tyrone Phillips, Tyrone May, Tim Browne, Sam McKendry, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak

  • For the second week running, Penrith overcame a 0-14 deficit to claim a victory. This time it was against South Sydney Rabbitohs with the Panthers scoring all of their 18 points in the final 29 minutes.
  • That come-from-behind win came at a big cost with Sam McKendry suffering a season-ending ACL with Dallin Watene-Zelezniak copping a broken jaw. Tim Browne is also out indefinitely after rupturing his bowel in reserve grade.
  • Watene-Zelezniak’s injury came as a surprise to the Panthers with him named in their side but will be replaced nearer kick-off. Come that time, the Panthers will be hoping to get out of the blocks quicker after their slow start to their opening fixtures.

THE PREDICTION

Canterbury Bulldogs will be looking to claim their first win of the season but will have to do that against the unbeaten Penrith Panthers. The Bulldogs have had a tricky start to the season with games against reigning Premiers Melbourne as well as Sydney Roosters but have conceded 66 points in those games, the second highest in the league. Penrith on the other hand have won both of their games and should continue their 100% start to the season in their first game on the road.
