THE TEAM NEWS

NELSON MANDELA BAY GIANTS

Coach: Eric Simons

Captain: Imran Tahir

  • Last time out, the Giants squeaked past the Tshwane Spartans by seven runs (DLS method) which kept them in second position in the table after four games and they will be looking to push on here and pick up another win.
  • In Ben Duckett, the Giants have the tournament’s fourth highest run-scorer but they have become too reliant on the Englishman for runs so coach Eric Simons will be hoping some of his local players can step up to relieve the pressure on Duckett.
  • Although one bowler has not been picking up all the wickets, Jon-Jon Smuts, Ryan McLaren, Chris Morris and Junior Dala have taken four wickets apiece which has helped the Giants restrict opponent’s totals with one of the stronger bowling attacks in the competition.

CAPE TOWN BLITZ

Coach: Ashwell Prince

Captain: Quinton de Kock

  • The Blitz are coming off the back of their first defeat of the inaugural Mzansi Super League season, losing to Paarl Rocks by five wickets two days ago, although Ashwell Prince’s side remain top of the table having played a game extra.
  • The Blitz have been able to set imposing totals or chase down high targets thanks to their free-scoring batting line-up, made up of three of the five highest scoring batsmen in the league, in the form of Janneman Malan, Asif Ali and Quinton de Kock.
  • Not only that, but their bowling attack have been picking up wickets for fun, with Anrich Nortje already collecting eight wickets, Dale Steyn with six and George Linde with five so they are clearly one of the strongest and in-form contenders.

THE PREDICTION

These sides faced off just six days ago in an encounter which saw the Cape Town Blitz win by just 12 runs (DLS method). Since then however, the Blitz have experienced their first loss of the season whilst the Giants have won twice. Ashwell Prince’s men will know that even if they lose they will remain top of the table due to a six point cushion over the Giants in second. Despite losing just two days ago, the Blitz’s loaded line-up should have enough to win against an in-form Giants team.
