LAST MEETING
Northampton 25-34 Sale

THE LOWDOWN

SALE SHARKS

Head Coach: Steve Diamond

  • Last time out, Sale were narrowly beaten 31-25 by table-topping Saracens who continued their unbeaten start to the season with the victory.

  • The result means that the Sharks sit 11th in the table and confounds them to their fifth defeat of the season.

  • Despite the result, Director of Rugby Steve Diamond was happy with the desire shown by his players against last year’s champions and believes that results will turn if they maintain that level of commitment.

NORTHAMPTON SAINTS

Head Coach: Chris Boyd

  • Northampton put in a dominant display in their last game as they eased past Wasps 36-17 thanks to a try on his first Premiership start from teenage centre Fraser Dingwall.

  • The Saints have been fairly inconsistent in the league so far this season, and as a result, sit eighth in the table.

  • As well as the players missing because of international duty, Northampton were without a dozen more players because of injury so 19-year-old Dingwall, George Furbank and Alex Moon all started in the Premiership for the first time.

THE PREDICTION

Two teams that finished comfortably mid-table last season, both Sale and Northampton would have hoped to kick on this season. However, both have shown frailties in the early weeks of the season so will be looking to get back on track this weekend. Although they will be the away team, the return of some key players from injury for Northampton should see them edge past a struggling Sale side.
