HEAD-TO-HEAD
All-time meetings: Guyana Amazon Warriors W4, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots W1

THE TEAM NEWS

GUYANA AMAZON WARRIORS

Coach: Johan Botha

Captain: Shoaib Malik

  • The Guyana Amazon Warriors come into the new Caribbean Premier League season desperate to break their duck and win the tournament after being runners-up on three occasions and finishing third twice.

  • With Cameron Delport unavailable for the first ten days of the competition, Aussie all-rounder Chris Green has joined the club and offers some big hitting and another spin option which is their strongest facet of play with Imran Tahir and Devandra Bishoo in their ranks.

  • The Warriors do not possess some big names to the same extent as some of the other teams in the tournament but they have some highly effective players in the T20 format with Luke Ronchi especially potentially a key man for them.

ST KITTS AND NEVIS PATRIOTS

Coach: Phil Simmons

Captain: Chris Gayle

  • St Kitts & Nevis Patriots enjoyed their best season in CPL history last term as they were runners-up to the Knight Riders, and they will have lofty ambitions themselves of going far in this tournament.

  • They are led by the destructive Chris Gayle as captain but he will be ably supported by Evin Lewis, Ben Cutting and Carlos Brathwaite who comes off an excellent if brief spell in England where his bowling was exceptional.

  • 18-year-old Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane is an unknown quantity that could make an impact but other than the two all-rounders in Cutting and Brathwaite, their bowling department does look a little light on quality.

THE PREDICTION

This match has the potential to be a good one as the uber consistent Amazon Warriors from Guyana will be desperate to start the campaign well while they face last season’s runners-up in the Patriots from St Kitts & Nevis. The Warriors look like a solid and well-assembled squad coming into the tournament with the bowling department looking impressive while the batting is solid. It may not have the big blasters and names that the Patriots have, but Luke Ronchi and Chadwick Walton are talented batsmen. They are the more rounded team and stronger overall, so they are favoured for this opener.
