All-time meetings: Sydney Sixers W3, Perth Scorchers W9
Last meeting: Perth Scorchers beat Sydney Sixers by 6 wickets
THE TEAM NEWS
Coach: Greg Shipperd
Captain: Moises Henriques
Sydney Sixers come into their opening match with hopes that they can reach the final four this season after having narrowly missed out on a play-off place last season despite losing the first six matches in BBL07 but ending with four wins on the bounce.
They have allowed some big names to depart as Billings, Birg, Botha, Maddinson, Roy and Starc are not with the squad this season and they are putting plenty of hope and faith into some of the younger members of the roster.
Tom Curran is their biggest signing as they hope the English bowler can have a big impact but all the departures will only heighten the pressure on the likes of Sean Abbott, Jordan Silk and Joe Denly, while Nathan Lyon is unavailable for this opening match.
Coach: Adam Voges
Captain: Ashton Turner
Perth Scorchers got off to a losing start in their first match against Melbourne Renegades after their batsmen could only muster 103 all out after being put into bat so that is one area they will have to improvement massively for this match.
Skipper Mitch Marsh has departed for international duty and misses out here so Ashton Turner will replace him as captain and they have been accustomed to losing players to international call-ups in previous seasons.
Will Bosisto comes into the 13-man squad for this match after showing some outstanding form with the bat in domestic competitions and it would be no surprise if he started in place of Marsh as they need some in-form players to produce with the bat here.
Perth Scorchers were incredibly disappointing in their opening match as they lost to the Renegades despite their bowlers causing the Melbourne side a couple of alarms in the chase of just 104 to win. The batting was pretty poor with some bad shots played and they will have to significantly improve to have any chance of beating the Sixers. It is unlikely they will play as poorly though and the Sixers look to be short on quality themselves. They ended last season in sensational form but the squad is much changed and this could be a long season for them. Expect the Scorchers to get back to winning ways here.
