THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS

Coach: Adam Voges

Captain: Mitchell Marsh

  • Perth Scorchers look set to finish rooted to the foot of the BBL08 ladder after another disappointing defeat against fellow strugglers Brisbane Heat with the end of their campaign not able to come soon enough.

  • Despite shuffling their team with the introduction of Clint Hinchcliffe and Josh Inglis to add some youthful exuberance, it failed to have much of an impact as the Scorchers went down to a six-wicket defeat.

  • Scorchers stalwart Michael Klinger has announced this will be his final season in the BBL with the veteran returning to the squad to make his final home appearance and is joined in the squad by Nathan Coulter-Nile with Usman Qadir and the injured Shaun Marsh making way.

MELBOURNE STARS

Coach: Stephen Fleming

Captain: John Hastings

  • Melbourne Stars control their own destiny thanks to a narrow win over Brisbane Heat in their last game meaning that if they win-out in their final three games, they will secure a semi-final berth.

  • A superb all-round performance from Marcus Stoinis was the key to the five-run with over the Heat as he posted 43 when opening the batting whilst finishing with impressive bowling figures of 4-21.

  • In a big boost for the Stars, Stoinis was not selected to feature in Australia’s Test squad to face Sri Lanka so will play an integral role in aiding his side’s push for the play-offs and could line-up alongside Jackson Coleman who has been added to the 13-man squad.

THE PREDICTION

Perth have a big reason to try and end their home campaign with a win after Michael Klinger announced his retirement. Klinger has been sensational throughout his time with the Scorchers and will be looking to go out with a bang in what will be his final home appearance. They face a tough task however with in-form Melbourne Stars looking for their fourth win in a row. Marcus Stoinis’ shun by the Test side may boost his side further as he aims to show the Australian selectors what they are missing out on and he can lead the way to put the Stars in a strong position to make the finals.
