THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE RENEGADES

Coach: Andrew McDonald

Captain: Aaron Finch

  • Melbourne Renegades progressed to the final of BBL08 with a hugely dramatic climax to their semi-final against Sydney Sixers as they managed to claim a three-wicket victory with the penultimate ball of their innings.

  • Chasing a tough total of 181 to win, the Renegades went about their business efficiently but needed some big hitting towards the end with Dan Christian the man to provide the spark required as his quick-fire 31 from just 14 balls edged his side into the final.

  • The Renegades will again enjoy home advantage following their semi-final win but will be hoping for more from their bowling unit after taking just three wickets against the Sixers whilst also allowing them to post a big score in the process.

MELBOURNE STARS

Coach: Stephen Fleming

Captain: Glenn Maxwell

  • After only just sneaking into the finals, Melbourne Stars will be heading to the final of BBL08 with a superb chance at lifting the crown and going one better than when finishing runners-up in BBL05 which was their only other appearance in a final.

  • The Stars were superb and fully deserved their win against the fancied Hurricanes with some of their key men playing a big role in the victory as Glenn Maxwell coolly guided his side to the final with an unbeaten 43 from 33 balls.

  • Daniel Worrall was magnificent with the ball too, ending with figures of 4-23 from his four overs as he caused havoc for the Hurricanes’ batsmen and the early wicket of danger man Matthew Wade with his first delivery was the catalyst for a sensational man of the match display and they will likely go unchanged here.

THE PREDICTION

The BBL08 final will be an all-Melbourne affair as the Renegades host the Stars in a mouth-watering prospect at Marvel Stadium but the home side will need a big performance to beat their rivals here. The Stars have the better head-to-head record between the two teams having won 11 of their 15 meetings whilst they have won the last three and that could be significant. Either team can win on their day but the Stars look the better all-round team heading into the final and can claim their first BBL title.
