All-time meetings: Brisbane Heat W4, Hobart Hurricanes W8
Last meeting: Hobart Hurricanes beat Brisbane Heat by 6 wickets
THE TEAM NEWS
Coach: Daniel Vettori
Captain: Chris Lynn
Brisbane Heat were beaten in their opening match against Adelaide Strikers and they were struggling for most of that game to make it a contest so there is plenty of room for improvement coming into this match with the Hurricanes.
The batting performance was a mixed bag and they had to rely on 11th wicket stand of 45 to reach 146 but they desperately need the likes of McCullum, Heazlett and Cutting to step up while the only criticism of Lynn, Burns and Bryant was that they could not convert their starts into bigger scores.
They will be without paceman Pattinson for this match as he is unavailable for personal reasons so that will mean at least one change to the team so either Lalor or left-arm spinner Kuhnemann could come into the line-up.

Captain: Matthew Wade
Hobart Hurricanes were runners-up last year after an impressive campaign in BBL07 so they will be hoping to go one better this season and challenge for the title and there is every reason to think they can go close once again.
The main change in their squad for the new campaign is the arrival of all-rounder James Faulkner from the Melbourne Stars and that came at the expense of Dan Christian who left to join the Renegades so that is pretty much a like-for-like switch.
Fast bowler Tymal Mills picked up an injury in training so he misses this opening match but they have last season’s revelation D’Arcy Short available along with Jofra Archer as they aim to make a winning start to BBL08.
The Hurricanes may be one of the more unfashionable teams in the Big Bash but they have plenty of quality throughout their squad. They make their debut in BBL08 against a Heat team that were pretty disappointing in their first match against the Strikers. The batting was especially poor although they will have benefited from getting some competitive action under their belts. They will have to improve with both bat and ball to be competitive here and they will hope to catch the Hurricanes cold. Last season’s runners-up will be a stern test however and they may just have the edge here.
