THE TEAM NEWS

ADELAIDE STRIKERS

Coach: Jason Gillespie

Captain: Colin Ingram

  • Adelaide Strikers went down to another heavy defeat as they failed to defend the 176 they posted against Brisbane Heat, going down to a six-wicket defeat and have now won just once in their last six games as their bleak campaign peters to an end.

  • That shocking run of form has prevented the Strikers from making the finals and having a chance of defending their crown but in truth they have been poor for most of this campaign and have been on the end of too many one-sided losses.

  • On the whole, the Strikers haven’t struggled to score runs throughout this year’s competition led by captain Colin Ingram and Jake Weatherald but they have struggled with the ball and that might lead to a couple of changes for the final fixture.

PERTH SCORCHERS

Coach: Adam Voges

Captain: Mitchell Marsh

  • Perth Scorchers were winners in their final home game of the campaign as they defeated Melbourne Stars by 27 runs thanks to a solid all-round display and they have shown reasonably motivation despite nothing but pride to play for.

  • The Scorchers posted 182/3 with all of the top order chipping in but it was Ashton Turner that led the way with a superb 69 from just 42 balls before Matthew Kelly and Nathan Coulter-Nile took three wickets apiece.

  • Retiring Michael Klinger could yet be offered a farewell game but it is likely he will sit out having played in front of his home crowd last week and even if Klinger does take to the field, it will be a young team either way as the Scorchers look to blood some talent with Fraser Hay potentially one of those to come in.

THE PREDICTION

Only pride is on the line in this game with the two teams at the foot of the ladder facing off in a contest to avoid the wooden spoon. Both teams have been disappointing in this edition of the BBL but more so for the Strikers who have not defended their trophy well at all. The Scorchers are looking to next season and will rotate their squad to bring in some young guns and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Strikers do the same but it’s the visiting side that can build on last week’s win and end the season on a high.
